Senior Pastor Joe Byers, of First Baptist Church in Deming, welcomes the community to share in the church s motto: Raise the Roof and Remove the Walls.
Senior Pastor Joe Byers of the First Baptist Church, along with his congregation, have set the bar high within the church to "Raise the Roof and Remove the Walls."Byers shares that the motto states by removing the walls, church members consider themselves stepping outside the church and into their community.
"It is a direction for our church to reach out," he said. "We can take what God has given us and then we can give back to the community."
Pastor Joe was born in Greenviile, Mississippi and began his career as a Youth Pastor from 1975-93. He has been the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church for the past six years.
The church is reaching out to assist people emotionally, physically and spiritually.
Emotionally, Pastor Joe is available to counsel individuals and families, or through marriage counseling. Pastor Joe can also assist with anger management issues.
Physically, the church feeds the hungry with sack lunches, and boxes of grocery needs are available. Church members gather in the church parking lot once a month to serve free grilled hamburgers, along with a chance to fellowship.
Spiritually, the church offers regular service hours on Wednesday night and Sundays. Sunday's bible study starts at 9:45 a.m., with worship services beginning at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday evening services begins at 6 p.m.
The church also reaches out to the community by offering a grief course for those that have lost somebody in their lives.
Once a month, the church offers a free movie night at the Starmax Family Entertainment Center for people to come together as a family.
