Lesson 101: A bit of your spit is enough to see if you could save a life.
Since it?s so simple, DoSomething.org and Be The Match are collaborating to ask even busy, often otherwise occupied college students to ?Give a Spit about Cancer? by hosting bone marrow donor registry drives on their campuses with the hope of signing up 15,000 new potential donors.
As a result of last year?s campaign, it?s first, eight cancer patients found donor matches, ultimately saving their lives through the campaign.
This year, there are 10,000 leukemia and lymphoma patients looking for a donor match! Most patients in need of bone marrow transplants don?t have a match within their family and rely on complete strangers that are found through the national Be The Match Registry.
Parks and Recreation co-stars Aziz Ansari and Chris Pratt have joined the campaign to encourage college students to, ?Give a Spit about Cancer.? Like they say, ?Everybody?s doing it?? before acknowledging that well, that?s not a good reason to do it, but they have some better reasons:
